Twenty First Sunday of the Year

In the Gospel we read how many people left Jesus and walked no more with him. Many still leave him. But by the grace of God, we are here. Each Sunday gives us an opportunity to confirm our faith in him who alone has the words of eternal life.

Theme of the Weekend Readings: We have chosen to serve the Lord. We ask for strength to continue along the Christian way.

First Reading: The people of Israel decide to serve the Lord.

Second Reading: The love of husband and wife is like Christ’s love for his people.

Gospel: When Jesus described himself as the bread of life, some stopped following. Others remained loyal.

Wednesday -Friday: No Mass

Bill Power, Ballyneale
Alice Flynn, Ballyneale 1st Anniversary
Michael Aylward, Assumption Tce.
Andy Murphy, Brownsford 1st Anniversary

We welcome into our Parish Community Darragh and Laura Heffernan son and daughter of Dermot and Maryann, Ballyneale, who were baptised in Tullogher Church on Saturday 18th August 2018.

World Meeting of Families; Official Family Prayer
God, our Father, We are brothers and sisters in Jesus your Son
One family, in the Spirit of your love.
Bless us with the joy of love.
Make us patient and kind, gentle and generous,
welcoming to those in need.
Help us to live your forgiveness and peace.
Protect all families with your loving care,
Especially those for whom we now pray:
[We pause and remember family
members and others by name].
Increase our faith, strengthen our hope,
Keep us safe in your love,
Make us always grateful for the gift of life that we share.
This we ask, through Christ our Lord, Amen

Rosbercon Parish Safeguarding Representatives are Dolores Doherty, Listerlin and Brid Vereker, Millbanks Close. If you have a Safeguarding concern, contact Dolores or Brid.

Best Practice in Safeguarding: Please note that it is a requirement of the Church that all of us who volunteer to work for the Church accept the ‘Code of Behaviour for Adults working with Children’. Our Safeguarding Representatives Dolores and Brid will be asking our Church Volunteers to sign this Code over the next few weeks.

Just Some Thoughts:
“Religions are not for separating people from one another. They are meant to unite” Gandhi
“In the most surprising way, I discovered God in the solitude of a prison cell” Nelson Mandela
“Pope Francis is creating a new energy in a disturbed world” Angela Merkel
“Don’t worry about anything but in your prayers ask God for what you want, always asking with a grateful heart”. Saint Paul

Harvest Prayer
Loving Father you have given us many things
All good things come from your hands.
We often take your goodness for granted
And often fail to say thanks.
Help us to realise that we do not own the earth
But are its custodians.
Thank you for the richness of our soil
And the opportunity to work the land.
May we harvest abundantly
And in gratitude share the fruits of our labour.
We give you glory and thanks
Through Christ Our Lord

Today’s pollution is a big issue, and rightly so.
People want clean water, clean air, and so on.
But the most dangerous pollution of all is evil.
So what must we do?
We must purify the source; the heart is the source.
It is the wellspring from which all our thoughts,
Words and deeds flow.
Lord, cleanse our hearts with your grace
So that all out thoughts, words and deeds
May be like water flowing from a pure spring.

Wisdom: “The diamond cannot be polished without friction, nor the man perfected without trials.”

Humour: The great advantage of not having children must be that you can go on believing that you are a nice person. Once you have children you realise how the wars start!
