4th Sunday of Advent

In a few days we celebrate the birth of Christ. Christ comes most readily to those who believe in him. Let us draw near to him now, bringing with us our needs, our hopes, and our gifts too.

Theme of the Weekend Readings:  The celebration of Christ’s birth is very near.

First Reading:  Bethlehem will be the birthplace of the Saviour of Israel.

Second Reading: Jesus offers his life to God and     dedicates Himself to do God’s will.

Gospel: Mary visits her cousin Elizabeth.

Weekday Masses:

Rosbercon: No Mass

Christmas Masses:

Rosbercon:

Monday – Christmas Eve, Vigil Mass:  8.00pm.

Tuesday – Christmas Morning: 11.00am.

Mullinarrigle:

Christmas Morning: 9.30am.

Tullogher:

Christmas Eve, Vigil Mass: 6.00pm.

Anniversaries:

Biddy Doyle, Harbour View, Rosbercon

The Christmas Offering Envelopes for the Priests of the Parish and the Boxes of Weekly Envelopes for Parish Funds for the coming year have now been   distributed. Envelopes may be handed in at Mass or to the Parochial House. We thank our parishioners for their continued loyalty and generosity to the Parish and to the Priests. We thank our envelope distributors for their    fidelity.

The Annual Giving Tree will be in Rosbercon Church again this year. Through the tree, gifts are brought to the elderly patients of the two local hospitals in New Ross. Parishioners are asked to take a tag from the tree and return the gift requested on or before the 31st December 2018. It is of the utmost importance that gifts are returned by this date so that they can be distributed to the patients.

Request for Funding: The Parish Building Fund now stands at €557,744.40 which is a wonderful achievement. We have so many reasons to be grateful.  We still have to make repayments on our loan so you might like to help out the Building Fund at Christmas!

Rosbercon Parish Pastoral Council have sent twenty three Christmas Cards and Greetings to parishioners who have emigrated from the parish down the years. We thank those who gave us the names of their family members and we will remember our emigrants at our Parish Christmas Masses.

Parishioners who wish to make their contributions to the Parish/Priest of Rosbercon for 2019 by Standing Order can do so by giving their name to Fr. Dan. People may find this facility useful as it eliminates all envelopes and also simplifies parish administration.

A Few Little Moments

The moment the angel appeared,

Mary grew worried and yet,

The moment she first heard the news,

Was a moment she’d never forget

The moment she left on her journey

Mary grew worried and yet,

The moment Elizabeth hugged her

Was a moment she’d never forget

The moment Joseph said “Bethlehem”,

Mary grew worried and yet,

The moment he said “I’ll be with you”,

Was a moment she’d never forget

The moment the keeper said “No Room”,

Mary grew worried and yet,

The moment the little lamb bleated

Was a moment she’d never forget

The moment her baby first cried,

Mary grew worried and yet,

The moment he baby first smiled

She thought, “Tis is the best moment yet”.

Thank You and Good Wishes.  Fr. Dan thanks you      sincerely for your generosity and loyalty to Rosbercon    Parish during 2018. May Christmas be wonderful for you and your family and may Our Lord grant you many blessings during 2019.

Reflection

A Star is Born

The Magi were led to Christ by the light of a star.

But they saw the star only because

They were not afraid to travel in the dark.

The fact is, we cannot see the stars

In the bright light of day,

But only in the darkness of night;

And the darker the night,

The brighter they shine.

In a sense, all of us are night-time travellers.

However, we need no longer fear the darkness.

A light has come into the world,

A light that shines in the dark,

A light that no darkness can overpower

Wisdom: “We come to love, not by finding a perfect     person, but by learning to see an imperfect person        perfectly.”

Humour: What if there had been Three Wise Women   instead of Three Wise Men? They would have: been on time, helped deliver the baby, brought practical gifts, cleaned the stable and made a casserole.

Collection of Parish Funds 15th/16th December 2018:

Offertory Collection: €   514.00

Weekly Envelopes:             €1,819.00

The Loop System, for the hard of hearing, is in             operation in Rosbercon Church. Hearing aid wearers with a ‘T’ (telecoil) can now hear directly through their hearing aids if they turn their aid to the setting marked T
