Fourth Sunday of the Year
Like so many prophets before and after him, Jesus was rejected by his own people. They couldn’t take the truth he was telling them. Let us reflect for a moment on the fact that we too have no great appetite for the truth, and often cannot hear the messengers God sends to us.
Theme of the Weekend Readings: We are a people loved by God; people called to pass on the love we have received.
First Reading: The call of the prophet Jeremiah is described.
Second Reading: This reading explains what love means in practice.
Gospel: Jesus is rejected by his own people.
Wednesday & Friday: 9.30am.

Prayer to Saint Brigid
You were a woman of peace.
You brought harmony where there was conflict.
You brought light to the darkness.
You brought hope to the downcast.
May the mantle of your peace
Cover those who are troubled and anxious
And may peace be firmly rooted in our hearts
And in our world
Inspire us to act justly and to reverence all God has made
Brigid, you were a voice for the wounded and the weary.
Strengthen what is weak within us.
Calm us into a quietness that heals and listens.
May we grow each day into greater wholeness
Of body, mind and spirit.

Grace by H. W. Longfellow.
“As torrents in summer,
half-dried in their channels,
suddenly rise, tho’ the
sky is still cloudless,
for rain has been falling
far off at their fountains.
So hearts that are fainting
grow full to o’erflowing,
and they that behold it
marvel, and know not
that God at their fountains
far off has been raining”.
Wisdom: The advantage of telling the truth is that you don’t have to remember what you said.
Humour: Walking with Grandma.
I like to walk with grandma. Her steps are small like mine
She doesn’t say ‘now hurry up’, she always takes her time.
I like to walk with Grandma, her eyes see things like mine do.
Wee pebbles bright, a funny cloud, half hidden drops of dew.
Most people have to hurry; they do not stop to see.
I’m glad that God made Grandma, unrushed and young like me.
