Twenty Third Sunday of the Year

We measure people’s commitment to a cause by the sacrifices they are prepared to make for it. We cannot hope to be genuine followers of Christ without making sacrifices. What does it mean for me to be a Christian?

Theme of the Weekend Readings: Following Christ has its rewards and it also makes demands on us.

First Reading: We need the gift of wisdom in life.

Second Reading: Paul shows concern for a former slave.

Gospel: We are reminded of the need to be single minded in life.

Weekday Masses:

Rosbercon:                  Friday 9.30am

Recent Death:

Geraldine O’Sullivan, Raheen

Catherine Mernagh, Windmill Lane 6th Anniversary

Dora and Richie Power, Ballybeg

Fr. Dan will bring Holy Communion to the sick and housebound that he attends on Friday 13th September 2019 rather than on the first week of September due to holidays. Please note this later September date.

Taizé Prayer services will resume on Friday 20th September at 8pm in Good Counsel College Chapel, New Ross, and continue every 1st and 3rd Friday of the month thereafter. All are warmly invited. For more     information visit Taizé Wexford on Facebook or

A Rosary Procession will take place Sunday 8th September for Our Lady’s Birthday. Starting in Ballybricken Green, Waterford at 7pm to the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity. All are welcome to attend.

The Mission of the Church in Changing Times: In his letter to the people of the Diocese in May 2019, Bishop  Farrell explained that the Diocesan survey in October 2018 showed that only 24% of the people of the Diocese attend weekend Mass. He further pointed out that the Diocese has 40 Priests under the age of 75 and that number will halve in the next ten years.

At Easter this year, Bishop Farrell formed 13 Pastoral Areas or groups of Parishes to work together.  Rosbercon has been grouped with Glenmore, Slieverue and Ferrybank  Parishes. Parishes will keep their own identity and will work and plan together in the years ahead. Representatives from the Parish Pastoral Councils of the Parishes involved will meet to discuss how their Pastoral Area will work and one of their tasks will be to address the reduction in the number of Masses in the Pastoral Area, with a view to allowing a  maximum choice for parishioners to attend Mass in their own Parish.

As the number of priests decline, the new Mass schedule must allow the reduced number of priests to cover Masses in neighbouring parishes. The Bishop proposes that the new schedule of Masses will be introduced across the Diocese on the First Sunday of Advent 2019.

The Sunday schedule in Rosbercon Parish will remain the same, with Mass in Listerlin at 9.30am and in Rosbercon at 11am. On Saturday evenings, Rosbercon will have Mass on the second and fourth Saturday of each month while Glenmore will have Mass on the first, third and fifth Saturday. These Masses will be celebrated at 7pm. Tullogher will have Mass on the Saturday of the first Sunday of each month, also at 7pm. At the beginning of each month those who attend Mass in Tullogher will be able to celebrate the anniversaries of their loved ones which occur that month. A special devotion will be provided.

We welcome the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Apostles from Ardfoyle, Cork to our Parish on the 14th and 15th September to promote Mission Awareness at all Masses. The Sisters of Our Lady of Apostles were founded in 1876 as a group of international religious women dedicated to spread the Good News through service and witness of their lives.

Burren Weekend Retreat 13th – 15th September: Would you like to come on a guided journey through the Burren? Mass Intentions for the Saturday/Sunday,

7th/8th September 2019

Rosbercon: Saturday 14th September at 6.30pm:

Ellen Kennedy, Irishtown Heights

‘O that today you would listen to his voice, harden not your hearts’

To adopt a hard heart-hearted attitude is to maim oneself.

A hard heart is a closed heart, so it can’t receive.

A hard heart inevitably becomes a barren heart.

A soft heart, on the other hand, is a blessing.

A soft heart can receive and can respond.

Lord, grant that softened by the rain of your grace,

and warmed by the sun of your love,

Our hearts may be turned from a desert into a garden.

Wisdom: The best preacher is the heart; the best teacher is time; the best book is the world; the best friend is God.

Humour: A little girl walked to and from school daily. One day, though, the weather that morning was okay, but by the afternoon the winds had whipped up, bringing thunder and lightning. The little girl’s mother was worried and got into her car and drove to meet her. As she did, she saw the little girl walking along the footpath. At each flash of lightning, the child would stop, look up and smile. The mother pulled up next to her daughter, opened the door and asked ‘what are you doing honey? Why are you stopping and smiling every time there is a flash of lightning? ‘God keeps taking pictures of me’ the little girl said. ‘Don’t you think he wants me to smile?’
