Twenty Fifth Sunday of the Year
Of all the idols people worship, money is probably the most common. Jesus says ‘You cannot be the servant both of God and of money.’ We are here because we want to recognise our God, not just with our lips, but with our hearts.
Theme of the Weekend Readings: The proper use of our worldly goods.
First Reading: The Prophet condemns the injustice of the rich of his day.
Second Reading: Paul reminds us to offer prayers for everyone.
Gospel: Jesus does not condemn the steward who provided for his future.
Wednesday and Thursday: No Mass

We welcome into our Christian Community Cillian Patrick O’ Neill, son of John and Joan, Guilcough Mór, Tullogher, who was baptised in St. David’s Church Listerlin on Saturday 14th September 2019.
Sr. Mary Crowley of the Missionary Sisters of Our Lady of Apostles from Ardfoyle, Cork has written to thank the parishioners of Rosbercon for your generosity to her appeal last weekend. Her Collection realised €525.00 which is a great achievement. Your generosity and your support for her Community in their Missionary Work is greatly appreciated.
There will be a meeting of the Parish Pastoral Council in the Parochial House on Tuesday 1st October at 7.30pm.
Fr. Dan is asking for volunteers, male and female, to help clean the Church in Rosbercon. Please contact Fr. Dan if you can help keep the Church beautiful.
The Mission of the Church in Changing Times: In his letter to the people of the Diocese in May 2019, Bishop Farrell explained that the Diocesan survey in October 2018 showed that only 24% of the people of the Diocese attend weekend Mass. He further pointed out that the Diocese has 40 Priests under the age of 75 and that number will halve in the next ten years.
At Easter this year, Bishop Farrell formed 13 Pastoral Areas or groups of Parishes to work together. Rosbercon has been grouped with Glenmore, Slieverue and Ferrybank Parishes. Parishes will keep their own identity and will work and plan together in the years ahead. Representatives from the Parish Pastoral Councils of the Parishes involved will meet to discuss how their Pastoral Area will work and one of their tasks will be to address the reduction in the number of Masses in the Pastoral Area, with a view to allowing a maximum choice for parishioners to attend Mass in their own Parish.
As the number of priests decline, the new Mass schedule must allow the reduced number of priests to cover Masses in neighbouring parishes. The Bishop proposes that the new schedule of Masses will be introduced across the Diocese on the First Sunday of Advent 2019.
The Sunday schedule in Rosbercon Parish will remain the same, with Mass in Listerlin at 9.30am and in Rosbercon at 11am. On Saturday evenings, Rosbercon will have Mass on the second and fourth Saturday of each month while Glenmore will have Mass on the first, third and fifth Saturday. These Masses will be celebrated at 7pm. Tullogher will have Mass on the Saturday of the first Sunday of each month, also at 7pm. At the beginning of each month those who attend Mass in Tullogher will be able to celebrate the anniversaries of their loved ones which occur that month. A special devotion will be provided.
The Opening Mass for the School Year for Our Lady of Lourdes School will be celebrated in Rosbercon Church on Wednesday 2nd October at 12.00pm. All welcome
The Opening Mass for the School Year for Saint Canice’s Primary School will be celebrated in Rosbercon Church on Thursday 3rd October at 11.30am. All welcome.
Just a Thought: Who do you say that I am? Jesus asks this question of his followers. The gospel writers in their fashion attempted to answer this most fundamental question. They said that Jesus was: Son of God, Son of Man, Divine Physician, king, prophet, bridegroom, light of the world, the vine, the high priest, the first born of creation, the bright morning star…. What concerns Jesus now is what your answer is to this question! Can we say with Saint Peter, ‘You are the Christ the Son of the living God’.
Mass Intentions for the Saturday/Sunday,
28th/29th September 2019
Mullinarrigle: Sunday 29th September at 9.30am:
John Furlong, Smithstown
Paddy Lawlor, Glenpipe
When we forgive we free ourselves of the burden of bitterness,
and we free the other person of the burden of guilt.
But our forgiveness must come from the heart,
which means it must be true, sincere and warm.
A cold forgiveness is not much use.
Forgiveness should start now.
Putting it off only deepens the wound,
prolongs bitterness, and postpones happiness.
Life is short, time is fleeting.
Today is the day to forgive.
Lord, deliver us from the poison of bitterness,
and give us the grace to forgive from the heart
those who have offended us.
Then we will know the warmth of your forgiveness.
Wisdom: “I sought my soul, the soul I could not see.
I sought my God and God eluded me.
I sought my brother and found all three”
Humour: The old believe everything; the middle-aged suspect everything; the young know everything!
