Twenty Seventh Sunday of the Year
To want to serve comes naturally to each one of us. The most important quality to bring to our service is love. We pray for a spirit of love as we come to celebrate Mass together.
Theme of the Weekend Readings: Our faith in God sustains us. We pray that our presence at Mass this weekend will be of lasting benefit in our lives.
First Reading: The Old Testament Prophet calls to God for help and God asks that he be faithful.
Second Reading: The wonder of God’s spirit in our lives.
Gospel: The Gospel reminds us of the importance of having faith.
Wednesday and Friday: 9.30am.

We are very happy that Students from Our Lady of Lourdes School will be attending daily Mass in Rosbercon Church every Thursday morning 9.45am. We welcome the students and their presence at Mass is a blessing for the Parish.
There will be a meeting of the Parish Finance Committee in the Parochial House on Tuesday 8th October at 8.00pm.
The Mission of the Church in Changing Times: In his letter to the people of the Diocese in May 2019, Bishop Farrell explained that the Diocesan survey in October 2018 showed that only 24% of the people of the Diocese attend weekend Mass. He further pointed out that the Diocese has 40 Priests under the age of 75 and that number will halve in the next ten years.
At Easter this year, Bishop Farrell formed 13 Pastoral Areas or groups of Parishes to work together. Rosbercon has been grouped with Glenmore, Slieverue and Ferrybank Parishes. Parishes will keep their own identity and will work and plan together in the years ahead. Representatives from the Parish Pastoral Councils of the Parishes involved will meet to discuss how their Pastoral Area will work and one of their tasks will be to address the reduction in the number of Masses in the Pastoral Area, with a view to allowing a maximum choice for parishioners to attend Mass in their own Parish.
As the number of priests decline, the new Mass schedule must allow the reduced number of priests to cover Masses in neighbouring parishes. The Bishop proposes that the new schedule of Masses will be introduced across the Diocese on the First Sunday of Advent 2019.
The Sunday schedule in Rosbercon Parish will remain the same, with Mass in Listerlin at 9.30am and in Rosbercon at 11am. On Saturday evenings, Rosbercon will have Mass on the second and fourth Saturday of each month while Glenmore will have Mass on the first, third and fifth Saturday. These Masses will be celebrated at 7pm. Tullogher will have Mass on the Saturday of the first Sunday of each month, also at 7pm. At the beginning of each month those who attend Mass in Tullogher will be able to celebrate the anniversaries of their loved ones which occur that month. A special devotion will be provided.
October Station Envelopes and November Offering Envelopes are now being distributed to the homes of the Parish. The November Offering Envelopes contain a sheet for the names of your deceased family and friends. The names of your dead will be placed in the Memorial Box in front of the altar for the month of November. The usual distributors are asked to oblige and we thank them for doing this work on behalf of the parish.

Some people have an excessive need of approval from others.
The great luminaries of stage and screen
Glow under the adulation of their fans.
But when the curtain goes down, and the lights fade,
They often feel empty and lonely.
They realise that they are valued
Not for themselves, but for their talent.
Lord, grant that I may not get carried away
When people praise me, or when I am criticised.
Help me not to become downcast when people ignore me.
Grant that I may have a lamp in my own heart,
A lamp which will enable me to see my own worth
And the dignity you have given me,
Which no one can take away from me.
Wisdom: “Our prayer should be for blessings in general, for God knows best what is good for us.”
Humour: The old begin to complain about the conduct of the young when they themselves are no longer able to set a bad example!

The benefits of the Community Alert in a rural area like Tullogher and Rosbercon is a reduction in opportunities for crimes to be committed through increased vigilance and communication between local people, increased communication between Gardai and the community, and a parish community that feels safer and more united in a spirit of neighbourliness.
