 Thirtieth Sunday of the Year

Jesus told a story about a Pharisee and a tax-collector who went into the temple to pray. The Pharisee boasted that he was not weak and sinful like other people. It is in our weakness, however, that Jesus comes to us as the tax-collector discovered.

Theme of the Weekend Readings: We are happy that God takes notice of us and listens to our prayer. Filled with trust we bring our prayer to God

First Reading: The Lord hears the prayer of the poor person.

Second Reading: St. Paul is coming to the end of his life and looks forward to a place in the heavenly      kingdom.

Gospel: Jesus tells the story of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector.

The Mission of the Church in Changing Times: As the number of priests decline, the new Mass schedule must allow the reduced number of priests to cover Masses in neighbouring parishes. A new schedule of Masses will be introduced across the Diocese on the First Sunday of     Advent 2019.

The Sunday schedule in Rosbercon Parish will remain the same, with Mass in Listerlin at 9.30am and in Rosbercon at 11am. On Saturday evenings, Rosbercon will have Mass on the second and fourth Saturday of each month while Glenmore will have Mass on the first, third and fifth Saturday. These Masses will be celebrated at 7pm. Tullogher will have Mass on the Saturday of the first Sunday of each month, also at 7pm. At the beginning of each month those who attend Mass in Tullogher will be able to celebrate the anniversaries of their loved ones which occur that month. A special devotion will be provided.

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament takes place in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel every Wednesday morning from 10am to 12pm. All are welcome to attend.

Many thanks to all, who contributed so generously the Propagation of the Faith Collection, which was taken up last weekend. This Collection goes to the Mission     Churches of the Third World.  The collection realised €650.00 and we thank you for your generosity.

We thank all who have contributed so generously to the October Stations. Outstanding envelopes may be handed in at Mass or to the Parochial House. We thank our parishioners for the continued loyalty and generosity.

The Total Gospel

Toseparate the two great commandments is not possible

And is contrary to the Gospel.

Yet, this can easily happen.

Those who have faith often lack love,

And those who love often see no need for faith.

Thus our lives are divided.

Jesus spoke of the two great commandments.

The first that we should love God.

The second that we should love our neighbour and ourselves.

We learn to love God by loving ourselves and others.

Loving God and caring for the neighbour are two sides of the one coin.

If we want a full and integrated life we need both.

Jesus showed us how to love in his own life.

Wisdom: “It is not what you eat, but what you digest, that makes you strong. It is not what you earn, but what you save, that makes you rich. It is not what you learn, but what you remember that makes you wise.”

Halloween Humour: Nora Bone was delivering a new plastic skeleton to the Doctor’s Office. As she waited at the main desk, Nora was aware that the waiting room full of patients were staring at her. So she smiled and said “I am bringing him into Doctor Henderson”. An old lady said sympathetically, “My dear! Isn’t it a bit late for the Doctor?”
