Thirty First Sunday of the Year

During the month of November we remember our loved ones who have gone before us and we pray for them. They pray for us. Where they have gone, we hope to follow. In the Gospel of today’s Mass we see the Lord’s compassion towards the tax collector, Zacchaeus.

Theme of the Weekend Readings: Zacchaeus, the star of today’s Gospel, takes Jesus at his word and changes his life.

First Reading: God loves all of creation and encourages all who fail to turn back to him.

Second Reading:  Paul writes of his joy at the faith of his community.

Gospel: The story of Zacchaeus, the reformed tax   collector.

The Mission of the Church in Changing Times: As the number of priests decline, the new Mass schedule must allow the reduced number of priests to cover Masses in neighbouring parishes. A new schedule of Masses will be introduced across the Diocese on the First Sunday of Advent 2019.

The Sunday schedule in Rosbercon Parish will remain the same, with Mass in Listerlin at 9.30am and in Rosbercon at 11am. On Saturday evenings, Rosbercon will have Mass on the second and fourth Saturday of each month while Glenmore will have Mass on the first, third and fifth Saturday. These Masses will be celebrated at 7pm. Tullogher will have Mass on the  Saturday of the first Sunday of each month, also at 7pm. At the beginning of each month those who attend Mass in Tullogher will be able to celebrate the anniversaries of their loved ones which occur that month. A special devotion will be provided.

A Special Remembrance Mass will be offered for those who died in the last year (Nov 2018 – Nov 2019). The Mass will be offered in Rosbercon Church on Friday 29th November at 7.30pm. The Mass is being organised by the Parish Pastoral Council who will be in touch with the families of the deceased. We emphasise that all parishioners are invited to this Mass.

Rosbercon Parish Pastoral Council would like to send a Christmas Greeting Card for 2019 to parishioners who have emigrated from the parish down the years. Just a Thought: Celebrating our Dead: We are not   powerless in the face of the loss of those we love. Our prayers and our acts of remembrance assist our loved ones on their journey back to God. November each year reminds us to remember our dead. The kindness and friendship of those who loved us, and who is now with God, still influences our lives. We share that love with others and our love may yet be passed on to generations yet unborn.

Change of Heart

It is only with the heart that we can rightly repent.

Repentance must involve a change of heart.

Anything less won’t produce a new being.

It will be like decapitating weeds

while leaving their roots intact.

But if we change our hearts,

then we will change our lives too.

All of us stand in daily need of such a conversion.

We need to move from a closed heart to an open heart,

from a heart of stone to a heart of flesh.

Wisdom: ‘As tools become rusty, so does the mind. A  garden uncared for soon becomes smothered in weeds and a talent neglected withers and dies.’

Humour: A little girl asked her mother, “Where did people come from?” Her mother answered, “God made Adam and Eve and they had children and that’s how all mankind was made.” A couple of days later, she asked her father the same question. Her father answered, “Many years ago there were monkeys, which the human race evolved from.” The confused little girl returned to her mother and said, “Mammy, how is it possible that you told me were created by God and Daddy said we came from monkeys?” Her mother answered, “Well dear, it is very simple. I told you about my side of the family and your father told you about his!”
