31st Sunday of the Year
During the month of November we remember our loved ones who have gone before us and we pray for them. They pray for us. Where they have gone, we hope to follow.
Theme of the Weekend Readings: Today’s Gospel brings us to the heart of the Christian message namely that we are to love God and to love our neighbour.
First Reading: To love God means to keep his commandments, especially the great commandment of love.
Second Reading: This reading shows the superiority of Christ over the priests of the Old Testament.
Gospel: Jesus himself repeats the ancient commandment. May we listen to him.

Just a Thought: Celebrating our Dead: We are not powerless in the face of the loss of those we love. Our prayers and our acts of remembrance assist our loved ones on their journey back to God. November each year reminds us to remember our dead. The kindness and friendship of those who loved us, and who is now with God, had a great influence on our lives. We share that love with others and our love may yet be passed on to generations yet unborn.

Bearing the fruits of love
If only the heart was right we could give so much more.
Lord, open our hearts when they are closed,
Soften them when they are hard,
Warm them when they are cold,
Brighten them when they are dark,
Fill them when they are empty,
Calm them when they are troubled,
Cleanse them when they are sullied,
Heal them when they are wounded,
And mend them when they are broken,
So that we, your disciples, may bear the fruits of love.
Wisdom: “A friend is one to whom one may pour out all the contents of one’s heart, chaff and grain together, knowing that the gentlest of hands will take and sift it, keep what is worth keeping and with a breath of kindness blow the rest away.”
Humour: A Christian is a man who feels repentance on a Sunday for what he did on Saturday and is going to do again on Monday.
