Fr. Dan is very happy to pray for deceased parishioners as their anniversaries occur during the year. November is the Month of the Holy Souls and we remember our beloved dead especially during this time. In 2020, we will remember only those who died during the year at our Christmas Masses.

February, month of Saint Brigid, the beginning of spring, month of lambs, month of three weathers – wind, rain and snow. Lord, be with us during the month of February. Antaine O’ Reachtabhra (1784-1835) wrote “Now that spring is here the days will grow longer, and after Saint Bride’s Day I will hoist my sail.” At this time of the year plants begin to grow and already, we can see the snowdrop, crocus and daffodil peeping through the soil. Let us hope that the gloomy days of winter are coming to an end.

Wisdom: Nearly all happiness comes into our lives through doors we don’t even remember leaving open.

Humour: At the pearly gates, St. Peter greeted a priest and a politician and assigned them their rooms. “Father, here are the keys to one of our nicest rooms. And for you TD, the keys to our finest penthouse suite.” “This is unfair,” cried the priest. “Listen,” St. Peter said, “Priests are a dime a dozen up here, but this is the first politician we have ever seen.”

A Faithful Friend

Let those who are at peace with you be many,

but let your advisers be one in a thousand.

When you gain a friend, gain him through testing,

and do not trust him hastily.

For there is a friend who is such at his own convenience,

but will not stand by you in your day of trouble.

And there is a friend, who changes into an enemy,

and will disclose a quarrel to your disgrace.

And there is a friend, who is a table companion,

but will not stand by you in your day of trouble.

In your prosperity he will make himself your equal,

and be bold with your servants;

But if you are brought low he will turn against you,

and will hide himself from your presence.

A faithful friend is a sturdy shelter;

He that has found one has found a treasure.

There is nothing so precious as a faithful friend,

and no scales can measure his excellence.
