Fourth Sunday of Lent
There is an amount of darkness in our country and in the world. But the Gospel of today’s Mass contains the wonderful words of Christ: ‘I am the light of the world.’ Christ is indeed the light of the world and the light of his love brightens our lives.
Theme of the Weekend Readings: This weekend we celebrate Mother’s Day while in the Gospel Jesus offers sight to the man born blind.
First Reading: Samuel chooses David to be King of Israel.
Second Reading: God’s people live in the light.
Gospel: The cure of the man born blind.
Bishop Dermot Farrell sent the following message to the Priests and People of the Diocese on Wednesday 18th March, 2020: “Given the rapidly progressing nature of this lethal virus, and our response to it, I am asking that no public Masses be celebrated on any day- weekday or weekend-from tomorrow, 19th March, the Feast of Saint Joseph, at 12 noon.
There can be no exception whatsoever to this norm, save for now, funeral Masses and Weddings – noting that when these are celebrated, these should be strictly limited to immediate family members.
It is imperative that these norms be adhered to for the safety of the people we serve , and as a means to contain the spread of this virus”.
The Churches of the Parish will be open each day for private prayer and devotions.
Weekday Masses: No Masses will be celebrated this week.

A Pray in the time of the Coronavirus
Dear Lord, in 1879 the Apparition in Knock gave comfort and hope to your people in a time of distress and worry.
We ask that Our Lady may now protect your beloved people from the Coronavirus. Help our medical personnel to bring the virus to a swift end and bless them in their work. We ask healing and recovery to be given to all who are suffering from the virus and their families.
May all of us, Lord, be strengthened by the spiritual support of the Christian community at this time through prayer and concern for one another. May we never abandon hope in the face of adversity and trust in your love for us. Amen
Our Lady of Knock, pray for us.
For a Mother
Your voice learned to soothe
Your new child
Your voice was the first sound
I heard before even I could see
Your young eyes gazed on me.
Your eyes were the first mirror
Where I glimpsed
My image in your face
Your nearness filled the air,
You eased and calmed
The longing that stirred in my infant heart
You nurtured and fostered me
With a love and care
That could come from nowhere else
I was formed from the depths beneath your heart,
You know me inside out
No deeds or no seas, nothing
Could ever erase your love for me.
Wisdom: Mother’s hold their children’s hands for a while but their hearts forever.
Humour: In school, little Johnny was asked about saying prayers at home. The teacher
asked, “do you say prayers before eating?”. “No Miss”, said Johnny, “I don’t have to,
my mum’s a good cook!”
