Fifth Sunday of Lent

In today’s Gospel we see a familiar scene, namely,  people weeping over the death of a loved one. Jesus is at the centre of that scene. He is the one who gives hope to those who are surrounded by the shadows of death

Theme of the Weekend Readings: This weekend   focuses on the Resurrection from death

First Reading: God raises his people from their graves.

Second Reading: The Spirit of God gives light.

Gospel:  The raising of Lazarus.

Public Masses:

Bishop Dermot Farrell sent the following message to the Priests and People of the Diocese on Wednesday 18th March, 2020: “Given the rapidly progressing nature of this lethal virus, and our response to it, I am asking that no public Masses be celebrated on any day- weekday or weekend-from tomorrow, 19th March, the Feast of Saint Joseph, at 12 noon.

There can be no exception whatsoever to this norm, save for now, funeral Masses and Weddings – noting that when these are celebrated, these should be strictly limited to immediate family members.

It is imperative that these norms be adhered to for the safety of the people we serve , and as a means to contain the spread of this virus”.

The Churches of the Parish will be open each day for private prayer and devotions.

Weekday Masses: No Masses will be celebrated this week.

A Pray in the time of the Coronavirus

Dear Lord, in 1879 the Apparition in Knock gave comfort and hope to your people in a time of distress and worry.

We ask that Our Lady may now protect your beloved     people from the Coronavirus. Help our medical personnel to bring the virus to a swift end and bless them in their work. We ask healing and recovery to be given to all who are suffering from the virus and their families.

May all of us, Lord, be strengthened by the spiritual support of the Christian community at this time through prayer and concern for one another. May we never abandon hope in the face of adversity and trust in your love for us. Amen

Our Lady of Knock, pray for us.

Prayer: At times like this, when we feel so fragile and    vulnerable, we find strength and peace in prayer. We know that we are not alone. Our Saviour Jesus Christ feels and carries our suffering with us.

Prayer of Blessing for the World:

May your servants be shielded, O Lord by the protection of your loving kindness,

That, doing what is good in this world, they may reach you, their highest good.

Through Christ Our Lord, Amen

Prayer for those Away from Home:

Loving God, we pray for those whom we love,

But who are absent from us.

Keep them safe from all harm, stress and danger.

Bless them with peace, laughter, wisdom, love and joy.

Grant that we may be reunited in the fullness of love;

In Christ’s name we pray.   Amen

Wisdom: We must learn to live together as brothers and sisters or perish together as fools.

Humour: A man, who always hadmoneytroubles, asked by a creditor to pay at least the interest on the money he owed. He replied: My dear fellow, it is not in my interest to pay the principal or in my principal to pay the interest.

I arise today

Through the strength in the sky:

Light of the sun

Moon’s reflection

Dazzle of fire

Speed of lightning

Wild wind

Deep sea

Firm earth

Hard rock.

I arise today

With God’s strength to pilot me

God’s might to uphold me

God’s wisdom to guide me

God’s eye to look ahead for me

God’s ear to hear me

God’s word to speak to me

God’s hand to defend me

God’s way to lie before me

God’s shield to protect me

God’s hand to safeguard me      (John O’Donohoe)

Tullogher-Rosbercon Community Alert would like to inform all elderly parishioners that the emergency response     button is available for all interested parties. It is free of charge for the first year. For further details please call or text 087-9020552. As always the contact number for   Community Alert is 083-1999585 where all suspicious  activities can be reported. This number should be added to each persons contact list. The text alert system has been an overwhelming success since its initiation just over six years ago. Increased vigilance is the key to reducing    opportunities for crimes to be committed.

The above chapter is readily available to assist             parishioners in need in whatever form at this difficult time.
